Outdoor Art Work

So for my first project to blog about I wanted to do something a little out of the norm. I know that lately I've been seeing a lot of super cute outdoor wall decor, but every time I see them at the store they are a fortune, so here we go.

First I bought 4 pieces of slate at Home Depot for $1.50 each, make sure you wipe them clean.

You need to drill your holes first so that you can screw the tiles to the wall when done, measure where you are going to put the holes. I decided to put them 1/2 in. in from all four corners. Put tape on the corners of your tile so that when you're drilling you don't crack the tile. Drill your holes with a glass and tile drill bit, I did the 1/4 size bit. It is a good idea to place something like a piece of wood under your tile so you don't drill into the floor.

Now you're going to put your vinyl onto your tile, I found mine at Ross for $6.99. Make sure you rub the edges of the vinyl onto the tile so that your paint doesn't bleed.

Now you're going to apply your spray paint, I added two coats because the stone is hard to cover, because it's a natural stone the first coat my look splotchy, this is because it's porous. Before the paint is fully dry slowly pull off your vinyl design, then let fully dry.

So I forgot to buy the screws so I will put up another post on how to attach the tiles to the wall.
All in all, the total project cost me $25 dollars and thats including the drill bit, I really don't think that is all that bad! YAY!

I also liked it without the paint, with the vinyl on the slate. :D
